“better now”

Released july 05, 2019

It's better to let it all go.
Tune in, turn on, drop out.
Enter into Now

This record was a collection of pieces I was experimenting with as I taught myself Ableton. After sitting and realizing I had enough to share, I did. They were my first step into the electronic sound I was hoping to achieve. They all share a darker and moodier vibe which is likely the result of me having gone back to work in a studio full-time and leaving my freelance career behind. I was feeling the heaviness of my decision. Ultimately, I left the job and went back to working for myself.

Better Now is the perfect time capsule of where I was at that point in time, creating in a SoHo studio in NYC. Having a good situation on paper doesn’t mean you will be happy with it. Better Now was my reminder to myself that I was enough on my own and I should listen to my gut. Looking back on this now in 2020, writing this description, I am slightly haunted by the track names and realizing how much I was telling myself I already knew what I needed to do.

Most of this record was made entirely in Ableton, though some tracks were still produced in ProTools. “Another Thirteenth” features the MicroKorg melody by one of my oldest friends and while we both sat in the hot room in silence trying to find our way.
